Safety work overalls are also known as coveralls. They are industrial workwear that covers the worker’s entire body, from head to toe. They are designed to protect the worker from various hazards and risks in the workplace, such as chemicals, sparks, dust, weather, and more.
They can prevent the worker’s skin from coming into contact with harmful substances, such as corrosive chemicals, hot liquids, or sharp objects. This can reduce the risk of injuries, infections, or allergies.
Overalls can keep the worker warm and dry in cold or wet conditions, or cool and comfortable in hot or humid conditions. This can improve the worker’s health and comfort, and prevent heat stress or hypothermia.
Visibility improvement. Safety work overalls can have reflective strips or bright colours that make the worker more visible in low-light or dark working conditions.
Clothing protection. Safety work overalls can protect the worker’s regular clothing from getting stained, torn, or worn out by the work environment. This can save the worker money and time on cleaning or replacing their clothing.
There are different types of safety work overalls that are worn by workers in different industries and environments. Some of the common types are:
- Work overalls – normally used by the workers in the workplace, are made of durable and comfortable fabrics, such as cotton, polyester, or denim. They may have pockets, zippers, buttons, or Velcro for convenience.
Bib and brace overalls – have an additional piece of fabric at the chest and belly that is attached to the trousers by straps over the shoulders. They provide extra protection and support for the upper body, and may have a front pocket or pouch for storing tools, etc. - Waterproof overalls – for use in wet weather or conditions where the worker may be exposed to water, rain, or moisture. They are made of water-resistant or waterproof materials, such as PVC, nylon, or rubber. Some may have hoods, elastic cuffs, or sealed seams for added protection.
- Flame retardant overalls – which are used by workers who may be exposed to fire, heat, or sparks. They are made of flame-resistant or flame-retardant materials, such as Nomex, Kevlar, or Proban. They may have reflective strips, badges, or logos for identification purposes and to increase visibility.
- Hi-Vis overalls – for workers who need to be visible in low-light or dark environments, such as construction sites, roads, or mines. They have reflective strips or bright colours that make the worker stand out and alert other workers or drivers of their presence.
